Natural Hair Diaries: Tangle Teezer

Review: Tangle Teezer

So after the same long drawn out hunt everyone else has had, I finally got my hands on the "elusive" Tangle Teezer. The Sally Beauty Supply closest to me finally got in a shipment but the wench (excuse me calling her that but she answered the phone like i was calling her cell phone late at night while she was with her man) told me they didnt come in. I forgot to call the next day but when I finally did, the sweet lady who answered said "we sold the last one yesterday". So of course this was me.

Something told me: "Self...call the Sally's by where you used to stay...you know the one with the heavy hispanic population.....yea...." So I call them.  "Hello, Do you have the Tangle Teezer" lady: "yes" me: "how many?" her: "About 3 boxes"

I hit the tangle teezer lottery.

Anyway, I was anxious to try it.  I loved my denman brush and was excited because I heard the TT cut detangling time drastically.  Plus its ergonomic and I have repetitive stress injuries in my wrists so ergonomic is the way to go for me.

So I use it! I love it.  I detangled my hair so quickly I cant even tell yall how long it was.  It was likely 2 minutes.  I had previously done a bentonite clay treatment (blog on that coming next) and then I had been DC'ing for about 2 hours.  I decided it was time to detangle and boy was it a breeze.  It wasn't hard for me to hold at all.  It takes getting used to but as long as you hold it correctly its made perfectly for your hand.  I mean, when i had conditioner all over me it did slip out of my hand once...but my denman does also.

Overall, I loved it.  I rinsed my hair today to refresh my curls and ran the TT thru it to detangle.  Again...quick and got the job done.

OH OH OH....also...I had minimal hair that came out in the TT compared to when I use my denman.  However, I will say that could be due to the bentonite clay treatment I just did but I will keep an eye on that and update.

Breezy vs. Rihanna *Video Releases*

So...i have remained out of this whole Chris Brown / Rihanna debacle in general. If you know me, you know my opinion. And that's that. ...but lets get to the music. That's what this post is about the art!! So I hadn't heard either of these songs before today (i RARELY listen to the radio) while watching the videos. So basically what i did was give the videos a first look....then read the lyrics to each song as the song played.......then re-watched the videos. So here's my analysis: ENJOY!!

Chris Brown - Crawl

I must say...I took to this song right away. I actually really love it. It's very relatable. Good Job Chris. Also, the video is very good. I liked the storyline and the emotion of it all. I love the look of the video...the director did an excellent job. But yes...this is a WIN for Chris!! All Around!! OH....let me not forget, I love to see him dance...and it was awesome!!!

Rihanna - Russian Roulette

So....after the first view of this video, I knew I was going to have to watch it a second time. I hadn't heard the song so I definitely had to go back and read the lyrics because Rihanna with her accent and singing voice isn't the best enunciator. My famous Rihanna quote is "the hoe stays relevant" with her songs and Russian Roulette is no different. I believe Neyo pinned this joint. BRAVO. The video is very interesting. It took the second time before I fully kinda realized what was going on (outside of the game of RR). Very dark and dramatic video...but we know RiRi has that side to her and she does it well. I like this joint!!

----

So there is no winner here. The songs evoke two separate emotions and the videos are very different. I love them both. Good Job. I haven't been much into videos (other than Trey Songz...whew) lately but I'd definitely watch these. I'm happy to see that both of them are getting over their own personal issues and coming back to the art that they love. Sing on........

Melanie Fiona

Lately, I've been seriously obsessed with Melanie Fiona!!
I'm so excited she will be in DC this weekend. I'm definitely trying to go. I wanted to be in Baltimore tonight for her itunes album release party but i couldn't find a buddy to go with me. However....instead i went to her listening party via ustream via globalgrind.com. It was great. She can sang!!! Her album is great from what I've listened to in the last 24hours. Its so refreshing. If she continues she may be one of my favorite female singers!! No one will ever top Aaliyah but Melanie can be up there.

Listening to her, I realized I'm definitely a soul type girl. I can jam to Beyonce or Rihanna (a.k.a. the relevant hoe) or every now and then Alicia Keys (we all know I don't like her at all though....lol) but they don't do it for me.

Who does? Melanie Fiona (of course), India Arie, Heather Headley, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Vivian Green, Amel Larrieux, Jill Scott, ....you see where I'm going!!

But yes...back to the topic at hand. In anticipation for her album, I downloaded a mixtape she did with ?uestlove and the Illadelphonics ...amazing. She did a few new tracks (i suppose they are new) and remixed some of the songs on her album. Because of this I'm having to get used to hearing the album version of a couple of the songs...but they still are the hotness either way. The only one I like much better on the mixtape is "Monday Morning".

Favorite Tracks
-It Kills Me
-Monday Morning
-You Stop My Heart (the way this one sounds just gives me chills)
-Teach Him
-Bang Bang

I mean I like all the tracks those are just the first ones that "spoke" to me. Ask me by the weekend I'll probably be used to the album version of "Ay Yo" and talmbout how "Johnny" is the best song of life or something. lol

Well I'll leave you with a lil' taste of Melanie. A Clip from the Subway Series she did (pls check that out...amazing), her new video for 'It Kills Me' and a few screen shots from the listening party last night.

"Ready" - Trey Songz ~~MY INITIAL REVIEW!!!

So...In the last few months I've become a hardcore Trey Songz fan and I must give that credit to Twitter. I began following him and listening to his Ustreams and ultimately downloading the mixtape he released this summer. I slowly but surely fell in love with Trigga!!! So, when his CD came out yesterday, it was a must buy!! So i went out and i bought it. "Ready" was 13.99 at Target but it was ringing up for $9.98. God Bless a Sale!!!

So...I've been listening to it on repeat all day...and I do love it. It's not as ...how shall i say...FREAKY ...as "Anticipation" but it's awesome none the less. I did have to listen to "Anticipation" several times before I was overly obsessed with it so next week I could be just as obsessed with "Ready". So far, in the last 24 hours (lol) these are my favorite tracks.

1. Neighbors Know My Name
2. LOL :-) (I WILL NOT BE JUDGED BY MY LIKE OF THIS TRACK OR MY ABNORMAL OBSESSION WITH ALL THINGS SOULJABOYTELLEM.....I WILL NOT!!!!)
3. Does he Do it
4. Jupiter Love
5. Love Lost

Like I said I'm still feeling out the CD so this list could change. Well 1-3 are pretty much set in stone!! Again...no judgement!!! I saw you dancing to "Turn My Swag On" (off subject but i was blasting and promoting that song months before it came out...putting all types of folk onto it...so my judgement is sound...HA...i really need a promo check from Soulja tho lol)

But back on Task...this is about Tremaine Neverson...BKA Trey Songz!!

My recommendation would be to go get "Ready" and to Download "Anticipation"

Here is the info for his mixtape "Anticipation" which i prefer to call a "Pre-CD" because Sir..."Anticipation" is too complete for one to entertain the idea of it only being a mixtape. You can download it here: http://content.onsmash.com/archives/20714

This joint is hotness personified!! I LOVE IT!! I cannot think of one track on it that I don't love. I have my favorites but in honesty...they are all my favorites.
However, the ones I listen to the most are "On Top", "Famous", "She Ain't My Girl" (featuring Sammie...and we know how I feel about Sammie), "Make it Rain" (T-R-E-Y SONGZ you're the king of the WORLD), and "Scratchin me up"!!! See for yourself!!

Oh I think I LIKE it
